GYMNASTS OF 4 COUNTRIES TO PERFORM AT BAKU OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP AMONG JUNIORS

The 19th Open Baku Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship among juniors will take place in the capital of Azerbaijan on February 3-4. 131 gymnasts and 4 group teams from metropolitan societies, as well as from sports organizations of other cities and countries will compete in the event.

Unprecedented frosts indeed locked Baku for the last days reminded by daily weather forecasts could not impede the holding of the capital’s Championship in rhythmic gymnastics among juniors with a participation of three countries neighboring with Azerbaijan. While there was a snowstorm behind the walls of the Olympic Sports Complex, snowflakes were drawing on its windows movements as if they were repeating them after the gymnasts of Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia and Kazakhstan.

AZERBAIJAN GYMNASTICS FEDERATION

An establishment and development of gymnastics in Azerbaijan dates back to the 40s of last century. The popularization of this sports discipline within a very short period of time favored the organization, and, in 1956, Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation was founded. After Azerbaijan gained independence in 1991, National Gymnastics Federation became a member of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and European Union of Gymnastics (UEG) in 1993. At present, Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation comprises four sports disciplines: rhythmic gymnastics, men’s artistic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics and tumbling.

Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva is the President of Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation from October 2002.

The complete name of the Federation is “Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation” Social Union, short name is – “AGF”.

The complete name in English is “Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation,” short name is “AGF”.

In its activity, the Federation follows the principles, objects and goals of the Olympic Movement, works in close contact with the National Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Azerbaijan Republic.

The Federation cooperates with the Ministry of Sports and Youth of the Azerbaijan Republic and sports organizations on issues of the population’s large-scale involvement in physical training and healthy-life style, personnel training, national teams’ formation and preparation, their participation in the training camp and international tournaments.

Within the framework of its authority, the Federation develops and strengthens international relations with sports organizations of foreign countries, as well as international sports organizations.

The Federation has the following obligations: - to develop and promote gymnastics disciplines; - to form national teams and ensure their participation in international tournaments within the framework of its authority; - to upgrade the system of high-class sportsmen preparation in the given sports disciplines; - to take part in creation of conditions for social security of sportsmen, coaches in gymnastics disciplines and other specialists working in this field, to take care of gymnastics veterans; - to develop regulations on gymnastics disciplines following the code of points approved by International Sports Federations; - to struggle against use of doping agents and/or its methods, as well as inequality or violence in sports; - to develop requirements and norms for all gymnastics disciplines, as well as classification of requirements for sports judges on certain categories for the purpose of their inclusion in the Unitary Sports Classification; The Federation facilitates to the development of children’s-youth’s sports, assists the activity of sports schools, Olympic Reserve Schools and Olympic Centers.

The Federation may become a member of international sports organizations; in accordance with the status of international sports organizations, it may have rights and obligations which do not contradict the legislation.

General Assembly is the Federation’s Superior Authority. The Executive Committee (EC) gives leadership to the Federation between the periods of its holding. The EC Members consisting of natural persons are elected by the General Assembly for the 5-year-period. The EC also reports back to the General Assembly.

The composition of the Executive Committee (EC) is as follows: - President of Federation – EC Chairman - Vice-President of Federation – EC Deputy Chairman - 3 EC Members

The Federation’s President (EC chairman) leads the EC meetings in accordance with the powers following from the Statutes and Legislation.
